California Fire: The reasons why the fire is so terrible in California?

In 2017, the fire in California caused at least 23 people’s dead, 180 people were injured, hundreds people were missing and more than 20 thousand people emergency evacuated from California.

In 2018, the fire in California caused at least 71 people’s dead, more than 9700 buildings were burned, 1011 people were missing and more than 142000 acres were burned.

Nowadays, California is suffering from fires again. The governor of California had declared that a state of emergency in California. Days before, the officials had required more than 200 thousand people to leave their house. For preventing more fires, the biggest public service company of California cut the power of millions people.

Why would California suffers from fires time by time?

1. The Climate Environment

The Southern California has a tropical desert climate, which would cause a huge different temperature between morning and night. And it only has less than 10 inch (25.4 cm) rainfall in the whole year. This kind of climate would always bring a dry climate to the forest region. And there are a lot of mountains in California, these mountains are the reasons why California is a windy state. A hot and dry environment is easy to make the fire happening, and the winds would expand the scope of the fire.

2. The Geographical Environment

There are a lot of forests and bushes grow in the mountains near California, they are the ammunition depot of the fires. And the state of California is on the Circum-Pacific seismic belt. For ensuring the anti-seismic property of the house, most of the house were built with woods. Most of the building materials they used are easy to be burned. What’s more, people are usually planting some trees near their house. Therefore, the house are difficult to save from the fires, and the fires are not easy to be controlled.

3. The Plant Cover

The herbaceous plants are easy to grow up each year, but they would be withered and yellow naturally after June. In this time, they are easy to be burned like the sulfur. And most of the forest in California are coniferous forests, which would produce a lot of vegetable fat by themselves.

4. Human Activity Influence

Before 1970s, people would cut down the trees for manufacturing, even though this activity is damaging to the natural environment, but it really reduces the fire risk. Nowadays, because of protecting the environment, the forests are more and more dense.

When the electrical equipment are working, especially the electric wires are transmitting the electric power, they would produce a lot of heat. Most fires in the history of California are caused by lightning. When the lightning hits the electrical equipment, they would be burnt immediately.

On the basis of the reasons 1,2,3 we had talked before, some fires are coming from few sparks. When a car has a flat tire during its running, the sparks may cause a conflagration on the road.

These are the major reasons why California suffers from fires so many times. But it is not enough for us to only know why it would happen, we need to think about how to prevent fire happening in the future.

1. Don’t leave a firing cigarette with the thing can be burnt.

2. After having the barbecue, make sure there is nothing is hot, and splashed wet the places you had burnt a fire with plenty water.

3. Equip a qualified fire extinguisher on your car.

4. Call 9-1-1 immediately when you are unable to put out a fire.

5. If the fire is out of control, Leave the treasure alone & Run away!
